As the media TechSpot reveals to us, for 14 months the YouTuber Socket Science has been making a laptop with only desktop PC parts.

The first thing Socket Science did was to choose the main components of this “desktop computer” and the truth is that it opted for a really powerful configuration, since this revolutionary laptop is equipped with a Gigabyte A520I AC mini ITX board in which are mounted an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, an AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card from XFX and discrete DDR4 RAM.

Then this youtuber designed and 3D printed a bottom case for the laptop and removed some motherboard elements such as some rear I/O ports or the huge GPU heat sink to integrate all the material.

Once that was done, the hardest part of the whole process came, according to Socket Science itself: designing a custom cooling solution with copper shims, aluminum heat sinks and copper heat pipeswhich was combined with modified fans.

After sanding and painting the bottom case of the laptop, the keyboard and touchpad were placed without issue and a custom top cover was 3D printed. Matte black color, with copper highlights, with blue details and with the logo of its YouTube channel in the central part of this. Likewise, this cover features bevels and a set of hinges that incorporate a 16-inch QHD portable display with 120 Hertz refresh rate which had to be reduced to fit inside the structure.

This YouTuber’s initial idea was to include a custom drum kit as well, but he ultimately decided to throw it away. leave more space inside the cabinet and improve air circulation.
