Cafe in the city of Gaza: “The location of the corpses is around me”

Gas City/Berlin Abu Hamdi goes to the city in Gaza on Monday to meet a friend. As a gift, he brings him a bottle of spirits from a small store that is Abu Hamdi. “I presented it to him, and he invited me to tea in the cafe al-Baka.”

A few hours later, the image of Abu Hamdis passes around the world: with a blood shirt, he sits at the bottom of the cafe, his mouth is open, surrounded by fragments. Behind him is a damaged folding table, a lifeless woman on a chair next to him. Your body sunk together, her head on the wall. The Mediterranean rushes after him.

Just like Abu Hamdi, who actually comes from the Shujiya area to Gaza, which was now declared a battle zone. It was a simple, but good cafe, he says. “It brought calm for the heart and soul.”

On Tuesday, he is now sitting in the al-Shifa hospital in the city of Gaza and says: “The explosion was so strong that he threw me off the chair and a short distance. I still remained with consciousness. ” He looked around and looked at the destruction around him: “A lifeless body, distributed everywhere,” he says, “I could not look further, it was unbearable. Then I noticed that it hurts me on both legs. One was divided, the other almost almost sat there until an ambulance appeared, ”he says.

In the cafe for the Internet

When they turn to him, the image, when it is at the bottom of the cafe, spreads online. “It was very difficult for my wife and children,” he says. Now they live in Canada and experience the fate of their father.

Abu Hamdi survived, although he was seriously wounded. According to reports from different media, there are some more well -known personalities from the Gaza sector: photos of journalist Ismail Abu Hatab, who probably also photographed for the project of the German Institute of Goethe. The hospital in the city of Gaza can hardly get a lot of injuries. Attack without warning

Mohammed Gabbun also injured in a cafe on Monday. Until now, he has not been applied properly, he says. “I was hit on my chest, my condition is moderate,” says the 31-year-old. Together with his sister Iman, he visited al-Baka cafe. “We ordered juice, then – without warning – suddenly struck the rocket.”

He lost consciousness and woke up only in the hospital. “Doctors needed a lot of time to treat me.” For various tests – X -Rays, blood samples – it was sent to different hospitals, where the corresponding infrastructure is available. There are more cases than that of Muhammad – and doctors also decide from the lack of care for the severity of injuries that can be treated when.

Sister, adds the older brother of Mohammed, is currently on the operating table in the al-Sifa-to at least. “The bone in the leg was completely broken. Doctors use their metal parts to stabilize it. ” According to him, the location of his two brothers and sisters is more stable than many other injuries. “Thank God for this.”
