Camprodón priest arrested for drunk driving, accident and escape

The Mossos d’Esquadra arrested the priest of the church of Santa Maria de Camprodón (Girona) for driving while intoxicated, causing an accident in Orís and leaving the scene without helping the victimsThe events, according to the newspaper ‘El 9 Nou’ and sources of the investigation confirmed by EFE, occurred last Friday around 7:00 p.m., at kilometer 76 of the C-17 highway, in the municipality of Orís, when the priest was killed. When Mossos Traffic officers arrived at the scene, they found the two occupants of the overturned vehicle, two young people aged 22 and 25who were slightly injured and were taken to Vic Hospital. In addition, the officers learned from information provided by a witness that the driver who caused the accident had fled the scene.

Shortly afterwards, an off-duty Barcelona Urban Police officer informed the Mossos of the location of the fugitive driver, who, about 9 kilometres from the scene of the accident, had been forced to stop because A wheel of his vehicle had been seriously damaged. following the collision.

When the traffic police arrived, they identified the driver, who turned out to be a 45 year old priestrector of Camprodón, who showed clear symptoms of driving under the influence of alcohol. The priest was therefore subjected to a breathalyzer test, which gave a result of 0.94 mg/l, almost four times the maximum permitted level of 0.25 mg/l.

For all this, they arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safetyor for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. On Saturday, he was placed at the disposal of the Vic investigating court, which released him but with precautionary measures such as the withdrawal of his driving license and the ban on driving any vehicle.

The court opened proceedings for driving under the influence of alcohol. The Bishopric of Vic refused to make any statements on the arrest of the priest, who has been rector of Camprodon since October 2021 and who also manages parishes in neighboring towns such as Llanars, Beget or Molló.
