Canada has decided to transfer to Ukraine World War II pistols that the country’s armed forces had previously planned to dispose of.
According to the Ottawa Citizen, the shipment is of 10,500 Browning Hi-Power 9mm pistols, which are scheduled to be shipped to kyiv in December.
It should be noted that these pistols were withdrawn from Canadian Army service and replaced with more modern weapons. At the same time, the Canadian Army had difficulty keeping these old models in service due to wear and tear and lack of spare parts.
Interestingly, the Canadian command initially planned to have 11,000 Browning Hi-Power pistols at its disposal. Therefore, it is not clear where the other 500 pieces disappeared.
In addition to the obsolete pistols, the Canadian authorities are ready to send 970 equally old C6 machine guns to Ukraine, the country’s Minister of Defence said. Bill Blair.
According to him, these weapons were obtained from old stocks and were planned to be used for training and classroom training. However, those machine guns that are still operational can be transferred to Ukraine.
Earlier, the minister also announced that Ottawa was sending to kyiv the chassis of 29 decommissioned M113 armoured personnel carriers and spare parts for armoured vehicles no longer used by the Canadian military.
