Canadian Foreign Ministry announces expulsion of Indian diplomats

Canadian authorities expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, in connection with the investigation into the murder of Sikh activist and Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This was reported by the press service of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Foreign Affairs Canada today announced that six Indian diplomats and consular officials have been served with expulsion notices from Canada in connection with a campaign targeting Canadian citizens by agents associated with the Government of India.” – says the document.

According to a statement from the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, authorities have received information that Indian diplomats are involved in some illegal actions against Canadians. However, they did not waive diplomatic and consular immunity or cooperate with the investigation and decided to expel the diplomats.

The Indian government calls these accusations ridiculous and accuses the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau by deliberately denigrating the country “for political gain.” India’s foreign ministry said it would expel Canada’s acting high commissioner and five other diplomats. They were ordered to leave the country at the end of Saturday, October 19.
