“Can’t be more disgusting”

Consuelo Ordóñez, president of the Collective of Victims of Terrorism (COVITE) and sister of Gregorio Ordóñez, assassinated by ETA, severely criticized the performance of the Popular Party this Wednesday at the Congress of Deputies. Concretely, Ordóñez censored the gesture of Miguel Tellado, spokesperson for the PP, when he broadcast in the Lower House a montage with the image of twelve PSOE councilors assassinated by ETA, in an “attempt” by the party popular to blame the PSOE for the reform – also voted for by the PP – by which ETA prisoners will see their sentences reduced.

“This image will be one of the most disgusting images I have ever seen in my life,” Ordóñez said in a tweet to which he attached Tellado’s images. “This perfectly sums up what our loved ones murdered by ETA mean to you,” criticized the president of COVITE, while urging the PP: “Take your dirty hands off our loved ones!” “You can’t be more disgusting.”

The criticisms of Ordóñez – whose brother was a PP deputy in the Basque Parliament – join those of other relatives of ETA victims, who also condemned the actions of the PP spokesperson this Wednesday in Congress.

María Jauregi, daughter of the former socialist civilian governor of Gipuzkoa Juan María Jáuregui, assassinated by ETA in 2000, accused Tellado of using the terrorist group’s victims as a “throwing weapon.” In a text published on social networks, the woman who is also a member of the management of the Basque Institute of Memory (Gogora) asked him to respect the memory of his murdered father. “Let’s see if you can look me in the eye and tell me that you will never use Aita’s image again. like a throwing weapon and see if you respect his memory once and for all,” Jauregi wrote in a message to Miguel Tellado.

Tellado’s intervention was also criticized by Josu Elespe, son of Froilán Elespe, assassinated by the terrorist group in 2001. The image of my father would make my stomach turn until I vomited,” he published in a message on X.

“You are scoundrels,” said Sandra Carrasco to the spokesperson for the PP in Congress. The daughter of Isaías Carrasco, murdered by ETA in 2008, demanded that Tellado no longer use her father’s photo and that we stop “using the victims”.
