Car bomb kills security chief at Ukraine’s Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

An official of the Russian security apparatus which controls the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia died this Friday as a result of sticky bomb explosion under his vehicleas announced by the Russian Investigative Committee, which launched a large-scale operation to find those responsible.

The attack took place in the Ukrainian town of Energodar, where the nuclear power plant is located and which has been under the control of Moscow practically since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in February 2022. Concretely, the explosion occurred on Kashtanova Avenue, where the agent’s car was parked safety device and which exploded just as it was supposed to start.

“The victim eventually succumbed to his injuries in hospital”The committee indicated this in a press release published on its account on the Telegram messaging platform.

Even though the commission’s report does not identify the deceased by name, only describing him as the person responsible for issuing and verifying security passes for entry into the nuclear power plant, the Russian director of plant operations, Yuri Chernichuk, also confirmed via electronic Telegram that it is a man named Andrei Korotky, died “in a horrific and inhumane act of terrorism.”

Those who committed it must be punished. “Attacking employees who ensure the security of a nuclear facility is a reckless and reprehensible measure,” Tchernichuk lamented.

The Russian committee concludes its message by announcing the start of a search and capture procedure for suspects.
