In the first half of this year 2024, the vehicle fleet of carpooling in Spain, represents a total of 4,365 vehicles10.6% more than in 2023 with a strong commitment to electric cars.
Of the total fleet of car-sharing vehicles, 63% are already electric, which gives an idea of the commitment to zero emissions in this mobility formula which is becoming essential in cities.
European Mobility Week
Coinciding with the European Mobility Week 2024 taking place this week, the Association of Shared Vehicles in Spain (AVCE) has made public the data extracted from the progress of the II Car sharing barometer prepared by the PONS Mobility consultancy firm for the members of this entity.
The AVCE, formed by Free2move, Getaround, GoTo-Astara, Guppy, Sharenow, Voltio, Wible and Zity by Mobilize, aims to padding value to the positive contribution of shared mobility to improving the quality of life of cities and their citizens.
Carpooling electric
After analyzing the I Car sharing barometer 2023and as a preview of the second for 2024, the latest data collected from the first half of the year show that the main carpooling operating in Spain have recorded almost 2 million rentals, with more than 27 million kilometers traveled, including 17 million in electric vehicles.
These results not only highlight the growing popularity of car sharing as a efficient and sustainable alternative to private transportbut also enabled significant savings in emissions of 2,643 tonnes of CO₂, thus contributing to the reduction of the country’s carbon footprint.

The national association, which promotes the deployment of car-sharing solutions, stresses that these data demonstrate “the positive contribution that this service makes to sustainable mobility.” in five of the main Spanish citiess, and sees the great potential of car sharing in the future, a solution that can make Spain an international reference in zero-emission mobility.
In this sense, for AVCE, public-private collaboration is essential to continue moving forward in the proposal of mobility solutions adapted to new citiesproviding a solution to existing problems of noise, emissions, traffic congestion and lack of parking.
