Carlos Body urges Galicia to “step on the accelerator” with more calls for European funds

The Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos’s bodystated that the autonomous communities, and among them Galicia, must “press the accelerator” regarding the calls for the reception of European funds in order to, “as soon as possible, have as many funds as possible on the ground.” This is how he spoke to the media after the presentation of the Yearbook of the Galician Economic Forum 2024 in which he participated this Monday.

According to the minister, “European funds are arriving in Galicia”, taking as an example the more than 700 million that the Community has received to invest in infrastructure or the 500 million destined for reindustrialization during the period first phase of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Planhas. However, he stressed that in the case of the Galician community it is advisable to “press the accelerator” in the calls for these funds, because it is “behind” other territories, which does not happen in the case of the execution of the same according to the Body.

He also mentioned the second phase of the plan, in which the European Investment Bank, led by his predecessor in power (Nadia Calviño), will channel 20 billion dollars in which “communities pThey will be able to decide on the projects to be carried out“, after being questioned about the Xunta’s request to accelerate allocations for strategic projects in the Community.

“If the Galician community has projects that could not be financed in the first phase, it can put them on the table and complement the investment effort already made,” Body said.

He also addressed the diplomatic crisis situation between Spain and Venezuela, sending a “message of tranquility” to businessmen. “The State will protect your interests wherever they are compromised” said the Minister of Economy, who also shared his intention to approve the general state budgets – for which they need the support of the Catalan independence parties – while acknowledging that it will not be “easy”.
