The intervention of the mayor of Toledo lasted almost two hours this morning, Carlos Velázquezduring his first Debate on the State of the Municipality, in which he laid the foundations of his management for Toledo, a city that “is doing better than a year ago”. The mayor boasted of having a project for this “open, plural, diverse, tolerant, creative and talented city, with national and international projection” and which he intends to convert “in one of the best cities in Spain.”
The mayor reviewed his administration, of which he said he had already completed 35 percent, and announced several projects, such as the “Toledo emerges”, an ambitious recovery plan five abandoned buildings in the historic center: the Abdón de Paz Palace; the Alamillos del Tránsito building; Saint John of God; the old nuns’ cemetery and the former headquarters of Radio Nacional de España, on Paseo de San Cristóbal. A project in collaboration with the Provincial Deputation, the Consortium and the Council to recover these five large disused buildings “which will be used for culture, leisure, accommodation for young people and restaurants”.
In terms of mobility, Velázquez revealed that on October 8 the modification of the city’s bus lines will be presented and also announced the establishment of a new ORA parking zone, the magenta zone, for regulated and free parking for residents of Toledo and Toledo. with a cost lower than the orange zone for non-residents. In his speech, he also recalled some of his achievements, such as “lImproving the health of the Tagus» with one of its first measures, the Zero Discharge Plan, with which four polluting points of the city were eliminated and also highlighted another of its achievements, the removal of businesses in the historic centerwhat some have described as “impossible” and there are already 80 streets in which 100 containers have been installed, that is to say that “we have reached 40 percent of the historic center of our city and we will continue to work until we have completed 100% of what was promised.”
Among other projects, he also spoke about recovery of the Roman Circus; the project to integrate Vega Baja into the river environment of the Tagus with new leisure and sports infrastructures that connect the University to the Santa Teresa neighborhood and also explained that the collaboration protocol that will be signed with the Council has already been approved. Toledo will host the Cinema City, a project worth around 12 million euros that will be built in Polvorines.

He also announced the approval of a post of almost 3 million euros “to carry out a major improvement investment plan”, which includes paving and renewal of the metal framework in various areas. the roads of the Santa Teresa neighborhood and Madrid Avenue; improvements on the Camino de Albarreal, on the ecological trail; in the Valley and on the road from Cobisa, to La Pozuela, approved this week by the local Government Council.
As part of this global action, there is also the repair of the damage caused to Gerardo Lobo’s wall; the recovery of public toilets in Transit; leaks in the old health center of Santa Bárbara, in the civic center of Palomarejos and in Padilla.
Another credit modification was also approved for an amount exceeding one million euros, financed by the rest of the treasury, for the lighting of the track adjacent to the La Legua pavilion; the relocation of Valparaíso Skate; the renovation of the Thalía Hall in Santa María de Benquerencia; the repair of the municipal summer swimming pool of Santa María de Benquerencia; the rehabilitation of the San Lázaro pavilion.
