THE Iberdrola Beach Volleyball King and Queen Cup 2024 left a good taste in the mouths of the public and the players who frequented the facilities of beach volleyball at the Puerta de Hierro sports park. Sunday began with the women’s semi-finals, with the big favorites winning with authority in their respective events. First of all, Nazaret Florián and Marta Carro defeated Deborah Giaoui and Laura Moreno after a very competitive first set, while Belén Carro and Sofía González did the same with Elba Páez and Daniela Andreu.
The men’s semi-finals followed the same trend, with Antonio Saucedo and Álvaro Viera putting in a strong performance to beat Finn Pickert and Timothée Platreand the Bello brothers get their ticket to the final after a notable victory against Sviatoslav Karvatskyi and Raúl Mesa. The afternoon replay served to elucidate the two couples who won the bronze medal, Elba Páez and Daniela Andreu completing a strong comeback against Giaoui and Moreno and Karvatskyi and Mesa beating Pickert and Platre.
With third places resolved, it was time for the grand finale. The women’s team, between the first two seeds in the ranking, started with intense exchanges. Little by little, Belén Carro and Sofía González gained distance on the scoreboard and took their cruising speed to beat Nazaret Florián and Marta Carro in straight sets and become champions of the Copa de la Reina Iberdrola in Madrid.
On the male side, The Bello brothers reached the grand final after putting in very strong performances in the previous rounds. Opposite them were Antonio Saucedo and Álvaro Viera, who were also very reliable throughout the tournament, which made the final very exciting and lived up to expectations. The British showed their privileged physique to overcome the Andalusians, who fought to the point of exhaustion, and obtained a very honorable second place.
With the sports part already resolved, the awards ceremony was attended by the authorities of the main sponsors of the tournament. It was the turn of the MVP Ambilamp and MVP Iberdrola trophies, with Alfonso Ron as representative Madison Sports Marketingopening the ceremony with the men’s MVP for Antonio Saucedo. Later, María Cabezón, head of the sports coordination division of the Community of Madridawarded the title of female MVP to Sofía González.
The bronze medal for girls, for Elba Páez and Daniela Andreu, was awarded by Javier García Romero, vice-president of the Madrid Volleyball Federation. The masculine, for its part, was for Sviatoslav Karvatskyi and Raúl Mesa directed by Alfonso Ron and Luis Muchagatechnical director of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, who did the same with the finalists, Nazaret Florián and Marta Carro. Their male counterparts, Antonio Saucedo and Álvaro Viera, received recognition from Javier García Romero and María Cabezón.
Finally, the champions Belén Carro and Sofía González, together with the champions Javier and Joaquín Bello, celebrated their victory on the sand of the Puerta de Hierro sports park after obtaining the trophy presented by María Cabezón, Luis Muchaga and Fernando Iserte on behalf of of the Superior Sports Council, and Felipe Pascual, president of the Madrid Volleyball Federation.
