Uruguay players clashed with some of Colombian supporters after the semifinal match of Copa America 2024 between Colombia against Uruguay on Thursday (11/7/2024) in the morning Wib.
Republika.co.id, Jakarta – The Athletic Court of Arbitration (CAS) rejects the appeal submitted by several players Uruguay and the Country Football Association (AUF) on Tuesday (5/13/2025). This appeal follows the disciplinary sanctions imposed by Conmebol after a match in the semifinals Copa America 2024 Against Colombia.
The South America football body has imposed a fine on AUF and Uruguayan players to participate in a match between Colombia fans and Uruguayan supporters. After Colombia secured a 1-0 win in the Copa semifinals, Uruguayan players increased in the public stands and exchanged hitting opponents.
CAS refused to attract or reduce suspension. CAS decided that the argument of self -denial of players was not a legal defense. Players claim that they have intervened to protect family members close to chaos.
“The Commission found that, in this case, the principle of self -reliance does not apply and that the actions of the players were random, violent and unjustified actions,” CAS said in a statement.
CAS noted that in October, they received a request from Liverpool striker Darwin Nuz and Auf, so that the sanctions were suspended for a while.
Nunez missed two South America qualifiers in September before the suspension of sanctions for a while. He now faces the rest of the sentence playing in five matches and a fine of $ 20,000.
Tottenham Hotspur’s midfielder Rodrigo Bentancurly was sentenced to a ban on playing four matches, which he had lived and a fine of $ 16,000.
Matias Olivera, Ronald Araujo and Captain Jose Maria Gimenez were sentenced to a ban on competition for three races, which had lived a fine of $ 12,000.
AUF was also fined 20,000 US dollars and Sebastian Caceres, Brian Rodriguez, Matias Vina, Emiliano Martinez, Santiago Mele and Facundo Pellistri, each fine of $ 5,000.
