Castilla-La Mancha asks the government for help for 73 municipalities affected by DANA

The Government of Castile-La Mancha has asked the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge for urgent assistance to rebuild hydraulic infrastructure and act in the natural environment of 73 municipalities concerned by DANA. A first assessment sets the damage at least at 12 million euros.

This was stated by the Minister of Sustainable Development, Mercedes Gómez, who met on Tuesday with the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, to analyze the situation in the affected areas of the provinces of Cuenca, Albacete and Guadalajara , particularly in Létur and Mira.

“Now is the time to see how we act in the territory, how we first recover the damaged infrastructure that is fundamental for the socio-economic development of the people who live in these municipalities, but also to analyze what we need to improve to prevent possible bad weather. situations that “are occurring more and more every day over time,” the advisor said in a Commission press release.

“We have at least eleven sewage treatment infrastructures affected in the provinces of Cuenca and Albacete, which must be adapted and put back into service,” he explained, specifying that “the most affected of all is that of Letur, where the collectors disappearedit is therefore necessary to carry out a more comprehensive reform. Likewise, it is essential to recover the infrastructure of the supply system, since currently “they are supplied by an emergency work of the Confederation with the Commonwealth of the Canals of Taibilla”.

During the meeting, the first damage repair works in the area of Letur, Socovos, Molinicos, Yeste, Ayna and other surrounding municipalities, carried out by the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, were analyzed, with an investment of just over 3.5 million euros.

In the case of Yeste, work is underway to restore the service road of the Fuensanta dam, to reconstruct the dredger passage and retention works in the adjacent boulevards, to remove sediments from the downstream channel that limit access and the drainage capacity of the dam.

Meanwhile, in several ravines and streams of Nerpio, Letur, Molinicos or Socovos, the trawls are removed and the passes are cleaned. And also in Letur, the Hydrological Information System (SAIH) checkpoint and the gauging station of the Taibilla River, confluence with the Segura River, are being reconstructed.

“The role of hydrographic confederations is decisive”

On the other hand, the advisor asked the hydrographic confederations, those of Tagus and Ebro in the case of Guadalajara, that of Júcar in Cuenca and that of Segura in Albacete, “to review all the streams and rivers that have been assigned to carry out “a reassessment of the situation and the actions that must be taken to restore it and avoid further damage”.

“The role of the confederations is decisive in the municipalities of the region and it is important to minimize possible effects on the canals, which is why they must take into account the possibility for town halls to act in urban sections, as c “is already the case in the case of the Confederation of the Ebro”, he commented. The idea is to do “joint work between the confederations and the autonomous administration to achieve a series of canal checkpoints in order to be able to prevent situations and know where to act, because due to climate change these large-scale storm episodes will continue to occur.
