Castilla-La Mancha will present the Pistachio Strategic Plan before the end of the year

It was during the visit he made to the Cooperativa del Campo de Villacañas where he was accompanied by the mayor of Villacañas, Juan Ángel Almonacid; the general director of Agri-Food Production and Cooperatives, Elena Escobar; the general director of Agriculture and Livestock, Jesús Fernández; and the Ministry delegate in Toledo, Elena Martín.

There he expressed his “solidarity, concern and support for the localities affected by the terrible damage caused by this DANA« and especially in the towns of Letur in Albacete and Mira in Cuenca. Likewise, the councilor expressed his “concern for the missing people in Letur” and reiterated his support for their families.

Strategic plan

This plan is part of all the measures that the Regional Executive has put in place to promote a sector in which Castilla-La Mancha is the national leader in area, with almost 80 percent of the national total.and also in production, with 74 percent of the national total of dried shelled pistachios. Martínez Lizán added in this regard that, in a few years, “we will also be a world reference, because we have a lot of planted areas that have not yet gone into production.”

In order to be “prepared” when the increase in production arrives, the Regional Executive will understand, in view of the next call on the FOCAL helpline, an additional percentage of 10 percent, “so that the sector has greater capacity to transform all the production expected in the years to come. »

The next step would therefore be the marketing of all this production, and to sell this pistachio from a solid position, “we are developing new bases to give continuity to the assistance to Producer Groups, so that they develop joint production plans, such as the one that this company has already launched with Pistamancha, through Domo Pistachio, which unites two agrarian processing companies with a long history in the sector, such as SAT del Campo and SAT Pistamancha,” he said. .

Progress is also being made on other issues, such as making Domo Pistachio the first EAPIR (Priority Associative Entity of Regional Interest) for pistachio in Castile-La Mancha and, in this way, improving the competitiveness of the entire the value chain, “something “We are sure that it will be a reality,” confided the advisor.

Quality figure

Finally, Martínez Lizán recalled that the ministry is also working on the future figure of quality Pistachio from Castile-La Mancha. At present, several meetings have taken place with the sector “and we are already finishing the drafting of the specifications”, he explained.

A work carried out by researchers from El Chaparrillo, a center dependent on IRIAF, “which is a real national reference for pistachio thanks to the work they started years ago”.
