Catalonia celebrates its first Diada with Illa as president and with a divided independence movement

Catalonia is celebrating this Wednesday IThe first day of September 11 with the government of the socialist Salvador Illa and in a climate of division within the independence movement. The institutional events of the Diada began this Tuesday with the ceremony of delivery of the Medal of Honor of the Parliament at the Monastery of Montserrat, but the agenda of this Wednesday begins early in the morning and will end at midnight.

As tradition dictates, the day will begin with offerings of flowers at the monument to Rafael Casanova in Barcelona, ​​where they will coincide Government – with Illa at its head -, parties – independentists, socialists and commons– and representatives of the entities.

At 10:00 am, in the church of Sant Baldiri de Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), the joint institutional floral offering will take place at the tomb of Rafael Casanova. At the same time, the CUP and other left-wing independence organizations will pay tribute in Ferran Street in Barcelona to Gustau Muñoz, a communist activist assassinated by police gunfire. during a demonstration on September 11, 1978.

At 12:00, Òmnium Cultural will hold its political event near the Arc de Triomphe, featuring the entity’s president, Xavier Antich. Not far from there, and as has been the case in recent years, ERC organizes its own political event, in times of internal crisiswith four candidates who will compete for the party leadership at the November 30 congress.

The demonstrations

The highlight of the independence protest agenda on the occasion of Diada is once again the demonstration called by the ANCin collaboration with Òmnium and other entities, which this year will have a decentralized format, with mobilizations in Barcelona, ​​Tarragona, Lleida, Girona and Tortosa.

In Barcelona, ​​the demonstration will start at 4:00 p.m. from the Francia train station and will head towards the Arc de Triomphe, where at 5:14 p.m. the political event will begin with speeches by Llach -appointed this year as president of the ANC- and other sovereignist representatives.

The demonstration will serve as a thermometer to measure the degree of rejection generated by ERC’s decision to invest Illa as president of the Generalitat, after the Republicans had already been booed in the last editions of Diada.

At 6:00 p.m. the demonstration called by the CUP and other organizations of the pro-independence left will begin, which will start from Plaza Urquinaona and end with an event in the Born neighborhood.
