Catalonia keeps the alert activated against heavy rains across DANA to “minimize risks”. This was detailed by the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, on Wednesday afternoon, after excluding the emergency phase in the face of a storm which has so far caused 92 deaths in the Valencian Community. The Generalitat calls for people to lead a “normal life”, while maintaining precautions, in the face of the accumulation of water, the flooding of rivers and the rains which will continue for the next few hours in the territory.

Parlon also emphasized that “The only concern now is the accumulation of water and the way it is channeled.“, even if the Government remains in contact with the various municipalities to “manage the situation”. During this day, several metro lines in the Catalan capital were affected by the rains, as well as the routes of several buses and railways, without any casualties or injuries, beyond these effects on public transport.

The Urban Guard armored the Barcelona coastlineto prevent pedestrians from accessing breakwaters or beaches, after the municipality activated the high wave alert, with a forecast of waves of up to 4 meters.

Regarding assistance to communities most affected by DANAboth Valencian and Castilian, the head of the Interior clarified that “depending on what they ask us, we will mobilize them”. The councilor indicated that “the Generalitat has offered the available means – Mossos, Firefighters and Rural Agents – to the communities that need them”. He also asked citizens to “follow official recommendations and stay informed via Government communication channels at a time when our priority is the safety and well-being of all.

The Generalitat and the City Hall of Barcelona have convened tomorrow, Thursday October 31, a minute of silencefor the victims of DANA. The tribute will take place at 12:00 p.m. in Plaza Sant Jaume (Barcelona).
