Catarroja poet Ramon Guillem dies at 65

The Valencian poetRamon Guillem (Catarroja, 1959) a deceased this Friday at 65 years old, as confirmed by the Association of Catalan Language Writers (AELC).

Guillem, a graduate in Geography and History, received many awards during his career, such as the Ausiàs March Prize, the Serra d’Or Critics’ Prize and the Valencian Writer’s Critics’ Prize, all for “Terra d’aigua” in 1992 and 1993; or the Vicent Andrés Estellés Poetry Prize in the XXXIII edition of the Premis de Ocotillo, in 2004.

He also received the Maria Mercè Marçal Poetry Prize (2014) for “La set intacta”; the Maria Beneyto Ciutat de València Poetry Prize (2017) for “La febre dels dies”; or the Alfons el Magnànim Poetry Prize (2019) for “Fugaç”, among others.

Novelist and translated into many languages

In his work as novelist Among his most notable works are “A foc lent” (2004), awarded the Erotic Literature Prize of La Vall d’Albaida, and “Una nit entre les lentes” (2006), while he has also published the newspaper “La cambra insomne” or the children’s short story “The country of the two suns”. His works have been translated into Spanish, Basque, French, Galician, Hungarian, Russian and Chinese.

He was an honorary member and vice-president of the Writers’ Association of Catalan language in the Valencian Community (2005-2013). He was also vice-president of the Valencian Librarians Association and directed the poetry collection of Perifèric editions. He worked as technical of libraries and files.
