Ceasefire in Lebanon – media published new information

The media reported new details about the ceasefire discussions in Lebanon. According to Al-Arabiya, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabia Berri, received a letter from the American envoy Amos Hochstein related to Resolution 1701. It is noted that some aspects of this message were received positively by Lebanon, while others were met with resistance. The letter was also sent to Hezbollah, which has so far refrained from commenting on its contents.

The Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.

Meanwhile, according to Sky News, the US ambassador in Beirut, Lisa Johnson, told Lebanese officials that Hochstein is not planning a visit to Lebanon until there is confidence that a deal can be reached.

Washington set the condition that any violations by Hezbollah would be monitored through a special monitoring committee and reported to UNIFIL forces, which would then pass the information to the Lebanese army.

At the same time, Lebanese sources clarify that the American side emphasizes: if the Lebanese army does not take measures in response to Hezbollah’s violations, Israel will have the right to intervene.

Previously, Kursor wrote that the Lebanese publication Al-Akhbar, associated with Hezbollah, reported on negotiations between Israel and the United States aimed at setting the conditions for a ceasefire. According to the newspaper, Lebanese officials and representatives of the security forces were not informed about Lebanon’s actual participation in these negotiations.

Israel and the United States, according to Al-Akhbar, are holding consultations to create the conditions that Lebanon will have to accept to end the military conflict. Beirut is expected to likely reject the proposed terms, which could lead the United States and Israel to blame the refusal on Lebanese authorities. The publication notes that this could potentially cause further escalation and expansion of the combat zone.

Media reports in Lebanon are also reported to be treated with caution, and official sources close to Hezbollah are focused on continuing the confrontation, suggesting that Israel will increase pressure on Lebanon.

Lebanese sources draw parallels with previous Israeli negotiations in the Gaza Strip, believing that a possible agreement between the United States and Israel will be presented to Lebanon as the only chance to stop the conflict. At the same time, Arab media report new Israeli airstrikes in the Dahiya neighborhood of Beirut, following warnings from the Israel Defense Forces.
