“The public must strengthen private partnerships and secure funding to ensure the sector transitions to net zero operations.”
Oku.Az According to reports, these words were said by Chaya Kapilasrami, Director General of Operations Coordination of the UNFCCC, during his speech at the “First Meeting of Ministers on Improving Climate Action in the Tourism Sector” within the framework of Tourism Day in the COP29.
He said that tourism is a unifying force:
“It connects us to the cultures and communities of all planets. It also connects us to the natural ecosystem that surrounds the communities.”
Highlighting that tourism is not a small field, the general director stated that it represents 9 percent of GDP:
“That is why we must ensure that we protect the ecosystems of communities that depend on tourism.
Today we must use the net zero transformation as a springboard to achieve greater resource efficiency, sustainable mobility and better waste management. To ensure the sector transitions to net-zero operations, the public must strengthen private partnerships and secure financing.
It is important to remember that communities at the center of tourism are showing solidarity during COVID-19. They got rid of this problem. Now we must work together to provide them with the resources they need to not only recover, but to thrive. We need to act together so that tourism not only survives the climate crisis, but also becomes a unifying force for the lives of people, cultures and the planet. “That embodies sustainability, justice and equality in this sector.”
