Cairo – The Egyptian mufti, Nazir Ayad, on Thursday (10/10/2025) condemned the visit to Israel with a group of people whom he called “those who promote themselves as religious leaders.” He called it “cheap political investments that use fake Ulam clothes to decorate the image of a bloody profession.”

In a firm statement, Ayad condemned the visit of the European delegation. The application appeared only a few days after al-Azhar, the highest religious organ of Egypt, also expressed criticism.

His comments followed the announcement of the President of Israel Isaac Herzog on Monday, who said that he received “priests and leaders of the Muslim community in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and England” in his office in Western Jerusalem.

According to the Herzog office, the delegation was headed by Hassen Chalgumi and included “leading Muslim figures who came to Israel to spread the message of peace, coexistence and partnerships between Muslims and Jews, as well as between Israel and the Islamic world.”

Answering this, Mufti Egypt said in his statement: “I am deeply regretful about this contemptial visit created by a group that promotes itself as religious leaders who sold their conscience cheaply
