At an innovation conference held in China, Chery demonstrated a “land and air vehicle” that takes off and lands vertically. Although the prototype is still in the preparation phase, during the test flight it was already able to travel 80 kilometers.
The machine consists of three parts: screw structure, cabin and chassis. Since the device is completely autonomous, there is no control in the cabin.
Land and air vehicles, as their name suggests, can travel both on land and in the air. For example, if there is a traffic jam, the device may fly by and land on an empty area of the road. It belongs to the VTOL category, that is, it can take off and land vertically.
Two people can sit in the cabin of the car. The maximum flight height is one kilometer, the speed is 120 km per hour. The car can stay in the air for about 40 minutes.
The development of air transport is carried out by the Chinese companies “Xpeng”, “GAC”, “SAIC” and “Geely”.
Other global automobile giants are also investing in this direction. For example, Toyota recently invested in Joby Aviation, an American air taxi company.
