China, African countries need to work together to achieve a multipolar world: Wang Yi

China and African countries should work together against hegemony and protectionism to achieve an equal and orderly multipolar world. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi wrote about this in his article published on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website on the eve of the opening of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum summit on Wednesday, TASS reports.

“The world has entered a new period of turmoil and change. However, no matter how the international situation changes, the original commitment of China and Africa to work together to ensure international decency and justice will not change.” – the article says.

According to the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China “advocates an equal and orderly multipolar world, comprehensive economic globalization, which has received high praise and positive response from Africa.”

“China and Africa jointly uphold genuine multilateralism, oppose unilateralism, hegemonism and protectionism, firmly uphold the international system with the UN at the core and the international order based on international law, and firmly adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and other basic norms of international relations. They also protect the legitimate and general human rights and freedoms, and the interests of the global South.” – Wang Yi also writes.

He recalled that trade between China and African countries increased to 282.1 billion US dollars by 2023, and Chinese investment in Africa increased to more than 440 billion US dollars.
