China and the Solomon Islands have signed an agreement on a visa-free regime. This is reported by TASS in reference to the radio station Radio New Zealand.
The corresponding document was signed by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Cai Weiming and the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Jeremy Manele.
“Agreement [о безвизовом режиме] “It will allow citizens to travel freely, promote cultural exchange and strengthen mutual understanding between our countries,” – Manele said.
He recalled that the two States had previously signed agreements facilitating the travel of holders of diplomatic and service passports.
In spring 2022, Solomon Islands authorities signed a security cooperation framework agreement with China, which provides for the deployment of Chinese police officers to the capital of the island state to assist and train their colleagues.
This has provoked harsh criticism from Australia, New Zealand and the United States, which believe that on this basis Beijing will build military bases and station military contingents in the archipelago.
