China asks the US authorities not to allow the head of the Taiwanese administration, Tsai Ing-wen, to enter its territory during her tour of the Pacific countries. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian in a briefing, TASS reports.
“We insist that the US side adhere to the ‘one China’ principle as well as the provisions of the three joint communiqués of the People’s Republic of China and the United States, and not allow Lai Qingde to transit through the United States.” – said.
The diplomat said Washington should not “send the wrong signals” to supporters of Taiwan independence. He called on the United States to take “practical measures to preserve China-US relations and maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”
“We have always been firmly opposed to the United States organizing such a transit. The use of so-called diplomatic relations by the Taiwanese authorities for pro-independence political maneuvers and provocations is useless. “This cannot alter the international community’s firm commitment to the ‘one China’ principle, much less hinder the historical trend towards the inevitable reunification of our country.” – Lin Jian concluded.
Previously, Reuters, citing sources, reported that during his tour of the Pacific countries, Lai Qingde will stop in American Hawaii and the island of Guam. According to the publication, he will undertake a trip during which he will visit states that maintain official contacts with the Island in the coming weeks.
