China expressed its concern about the nuclear risks associated with the Ukrainian conflict and recalled the inadmissibility of the use of nuclear weapons. The corresponding statement was made by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning, commenting on information about the discussion between American and European officials on the return of nuclear weapons to Ukraine, TASS reports.
“China is deeply concerned about the nuclear risks caused by the Ukrainian conflict and has repeatedly stated that nuclear weapons should not be used and that a nuclear war should not be started.” – said the diplomat.
He called on all parties to “maintain calm and restraint, and jointly contribute to calming the situation through dialogue and consultations aimed at reducing strategic risks.”
As The New York Times previously reported, some US and European Union officials have proposed returning nuclear weapons to Ukraine, which it abandoned after the collapse of the USSR. At the same time, the publication noted that such a step could lead to serious consequences.
