China protests against Taiwanese Chief Executive Tsai Ing-wen’s secret visits to the United States. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, in a briefing, TASS reports.
“China resolutely opposes any form of official contact between the United States and Taiwan, and resolutely opposes Taiwanese leaders secretly visiting the United States under any pretext and for any reason.” — said the diplomat, commenting on Li Qingde’s upcoming visit to the Hawaiian Islands and Guam.
He added that Beijing calls on Washington to faithfully implement the commitments made by American leaders, stop official exchanges with the island and not send any more wrong signals to Taipei.
Mao Ning reminded that the United States should “approach the Taiwan question with double caution.”
Previously, Reuters, citing sources, reported that during his tour of the Pacific countries, Lai Qingde will stop in the American Hawaii and the island of Guam, and will also visit the states that maintain official contacts with the island. As clarified by The Wall Street Journal, his trip abroad is expected to begin on November 30.
