The People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) has sent fighter jets to monitor a US Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft flying over the Taiwan Strait. TASS reports this with reference to the PLA’s Eastern Combat Command Zone.
“On September 17, a US P-8A anti-submarine patrol aircraft defiantly flew over the Taiwan Strait. The PLA Eastern Combat Zone Command dispatched fighter aircraft to track and control the movement of the US aircraft and took measures in accordance with the law and regulations. The armed forces in the region always maintain a high level of readiness and resolutely defend national sovereignty and security as well as regional peace and stability.” – the statement says.
As previously reported, representatives of the US military command in the Indo-Pacific region (IPR) will hold talks with representatives of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in the coming weeks to avoid any misunderstandings between the armies of the two powers that could lead to a conflict.
At the same time, the US has not stopped its provocations against China in its IPRs, including the Taiwan Strait.
