Through its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), China will help shape a multipolar world and promote globalization that includes all members of the international community, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong said at a briefing on China’s rotating chairmanship of the SCO in 2024-2025, TASS reports.
According to him, the People’s Republic of China aims to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, an accessible and inclusive economic globalization, and, in practice, bring stability and predictability to the modern world.
“The People’s Republic of China, as the SCO chair, will strengthen cooperation with other member states in the fields of trade and economy, finance, energy, green development and digital economy. China intends to intensively promote the integration of its “One Belt, One Road” trade and investment initiative with the regional cooperation and national development initiatives of all SCO member countries.” Sun Weidong said.
He noted that China, as the SCO chair, will hold more than 100 meetings and events dedicated to politics, security, economy and humanitarian spheres. The Vice Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China added that Beijing also plans to hold a forum of SCO political parties to strengthen inter-party cooperation and exchange of experience in public administration.
“Next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese invaders and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the UN. The member states and I are considering adopting a declaration that will emphasize that all SCO countries firmly support the system of international relations with the central role of the UN and the world order based on international law.” – Sun Weidong concluded.
