British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Rio de Janeiro.
“Working closely with the world’s major economies is vital to securing investment in the UK and creating the jobs needed to drive growth,” Starmer said.
The UK government said it was committed to a “stable and pragmatic engagement” with China.
En route to Rio de Janeiro, Starmer told reporters that “strengthening support for Ukraine” was high on the agenda.
The meeting between the head of Government of the United Kingdom and Xi Jinping will be the first personal contact with the Chinese leader since 2018.
The G20 summit will be held on November 18 and 19 in the capital of Brazil and will be dedicated to “building a just world and a sustainable planet.” The Russian delegation will be headed by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrovreminds RIA Novosti.
