The United States Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the Alphabet corporation, owner of Google, and demanded that it refrain from using the popular Chrome browser. This decision could radically change the balance of power in the Internet browser market and affect millions of users around the world.
Oku.Az“Reuters” reported about this.
It was reported that the prosecution was not satisfied with only demanding the sale of “Chrome.” They also insisted on banning Google from entering the browser market for five years as part of antitrust measures.
This is an unprecedented decision, given that Chrome has a 61% share of the US market, according to StatCounter.
In addition, the Ministry of Justice is trying to prohibit “Google” from entering into agreements with “Apple” and other companies for the installation of its search system on smartphones and browsers.
They also want to force the corporation to share data with its competitors for 10 years.
“The playing field is not level because Google benefits from an unfair advantage,” the plaintiff’s attorneys said in court papers.
“Google” plans to present its proposals to correct the situation by December 20. The decision is expected to be made in late summer 2025. Representatives of corporations believe that such requirements will harm consumers and developers.
