Within the framework of the West Azerbaijan Chronicle project, a story entitled “Place names of the Oghuz and Kipchak tribes in West Azerbaijan” was prepared on Baku TV, authored by journalist Asgar Ibrahimov.
Today’s plot tells about the toponyms, oronyms and hydronyms of Adiyaman, Azadegh, Azadibek, Azadkharaba, Azgala, Aznaberd, which were subjected to the “terror of name change” by the Armenians.
It was stated that thousands of years have passed since the formation of the toponyms of the ancient Turkic, Oghuz and Kipchak tribes in Western Azerbaijan and they are never forgotten.
Adiyaman is the name of a mountain and a river in Goyçe district, which was called Garanlik and later Martuni. The Armenians changed the name of this oronym to Garnasar, and the name of the hydronym to Arkzi.
Adiyaman is the name of a village in the district of the same name in Talin district and was called Garnhovit by the Armenians.
Azadegh is the name of a village in the district called Pashali of Darelayaz district, which was later called Azizbeyov and Vayk. In 1828-1929, Armenians were transferred here from the Iranian provinces of Khoy and Salmas. Since 1930 only Armenians have lived here.
There was a village in the territory of Azadibek, Shoreyel district. It was abolished in the mid-19th century and fell into ruins.
Azadkharaba: This town located on the shores of Lake Goycha was destroyed and left in ruins.
There was a village in the territory of Azgala, Goycha district. It was abolished by the Armenians and turned into ruins.
Aznaberd is the name of a mountain in the Megri district of Zangezur district.
In the end, it was stressed that the bitter destiny of these homelands, which contain in their names the reality of history, cannot be erased from memory: “These places, which are geographical witnesses of the past, not only keep the realities alive, But people’s hopes of returning to their homeland will also increase. Of course, the truth will be restored over time, the true owners of the ancient lands will return to their homeland.
In general, the study and dissemination of toponyms, oichonyms, oronyms and hydronyms belonging to Western Azerbaijan is a reality today and has great meaning and importance for future generations who will be owners of our native land. Because they reflect the history, ethnography and geography of the local population. With the plot prepared, the history and etymology of the place names of Western Azerbaijan modified by the Armenians are investigated, as well as information about the origin, meaning and subsequent fate of the place names.
It should be remembered that the goal of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project is to preserve and popularize the name of our historical and ancient lands, as well as the deportation of Azerbaijanis by Armenians, place names that existed in those territories, but their names have been erased, countless examples of underground and surface material culture: ancient settlements, necropolises, mounds, remains of castles, palaces and fortifications, caravansaries, bridges, funerary chests, statues of horses and rams, The discovery of temples, churches, mosques, pyres and hearths is the transmission to the world community of the facts confirming that the area is a pure Oghuz-Turkish settlement.
