Within the framework of the West Azerbaijan Chronicle project, a story entitled “Aghcagishlaq, a place formerly called “Getashen” and then “Getazat” was prepared on Baku TV, under the authorship of journalist Asgar Ibrahimov.
In today’s plot, the place names Aghcagala, Aghcagishlaq, Aghcagush, which were subjected to the “terror of name change” by the Armenians The word has been opened.
It is said that since ancient times people have settled on the territory of Western Azerbaijan and created settlements and cultural monuments here, and these places are considered bearers of the Azerbaijani language and culture, in addition to their antiquity.
Aghcagala is the name of a village in Karpibasar district, called Üchkilsa, later Echmiadzin. Until 1828 only Azerbaijanis lived in the village. Armenians were moved here from Türkiye in 1828-1830. In 1918, Azerbaijanis living in the village were subjected to Armenian aggression and deported from their historical and ethnic lands. On January 25, 1978, the name of the village was changed to Tsakhgalanj.
Aghcagishlaq is the name of a village in Gamarli, later Artashat district of Garnibasar district. Azerbaijanis living here since 1831 were displaced by the Armenian genocide of 1918, and Armenians resettled from abroad settled in the village. After the establishment of the Soviet government in Armenia in 1920, the surviving Azerbaijanis returned to their native homes. In 1948-1949 they were transferred again to Azerbaijan. Now Armenians live here. On June 21, 1948 the name of the town was changed to Getashen and on May 25, 1967 it was changed again to Getazat.
Aghcagush – was the name of a ruined village east of the lake of the same name in the Goycha district.
Aghcagala is the name of Chambarak Castle, later Krasnoselo district of Goyche district, and its walls are still standing.
In the end it was stressed that Azerbaijanis from these territories, who were victims of Armenian sedition, are expelled from time to time and their names Armenianized: “Of course, this elimination and Armenianization cannot last forever, and Western Azerbaijanis “They live with the desire to return to their native homes, we are sure that they will return to the destroyed, ruined places and renew the settlements built.”
In general, the study and dissemination of toponyms, oiconyms, oronyms and hydronyms belonging to Western Azerbaijan is a reality today and has great meaning and importance in terms of ownership of our native homeland by future generations. Because they reflect the history, ethnography and geography of the local population. With the plot prepared, the history and etymology of the place names of Western Azerbaijan modified by the Armenians are investigated, as well as information about the origin, meaning and subsequent fate of the place names.
It should be remembered that the goal of the Western Azerbaijan Chronicle project is to preserve and popularize the name of our historical and ancient lands, as well as the deportation of Azerbaijanis by Armenians, place names that existed in those territories, but their names have been erased, countless examples of underground and surface material culture are revealed: ancient settlements, necropolises, mounds, remains of castles, palaces and fortifications, caravansaries, bridges, funerary chests, statues of horses and rams, temples, churches, mosques, pyres and homes, and Facts confirming that the area is a purely Turkic-Oghuz settlement are communicated to the world community.
Also the president Ilham Aliyev Regarding Western Azerbaijan, he said: “The map of the beginning of the 20th century shows once again that Western Azerbaijan is the historical land of Azerbaijan, the names of cities and towns are of Azerbaijani origin and we know very well that Azerbaijanis on the territory of present-day Armenia throughout history people have lived. Now the main task is “to make it known to the world community”, it is the promotion of the duties arising from the Concept of Return. prepared by the West Azerbaijan Community according to its opinion.
Furthermore, it aims to illuminate the thoughts of historians and researchers about Western Azerbaijan and the life history of the people who were deported.
