City Hall advances construction of 221 affordable rental homes in Valencia

The Mayor of Valencia, Maria José Cataláaccompanied by the councilor for urban planning and housing, Juan Giner, visited this Thursday the construction works of the new residential building that the City Hall has just acquired thanks to an exchange operation.

It is a building of 86 apartments, located in the district of La Fountain of Sant Lluisand which will serve as affordable rentals for families and young people. In addition to the aforementioned apartments, the building will have 99 parking spaces, 86 storage rooms and 3 adapted accommodations. The property under construction has 694 m2 of floor space and 10,295 m2 of ceiling space.

“The housing units under construction will be completed in the second quarter of 2026 and will be allocated quickly on a contractual basis. affordable rent“, said the mayor, who explained that thanks to the exchange operation carried out by the Valencia City Council, it will be possible to build 400 additional publicly protected homes promoted by the private sector, which will be put up for sale and will increase the supply of public housing in the city.

During the visit, the mayor announced that tomorrow the Government Council will approve the start of the tender procedure to contract the constitution of surface rights on 4 municipal plots located in New Moles and Faitanarwhere 221 affordable rental housing units managed by the private sector will be built.

“We are taking another step forward in increasing public housing in this city. For this government, housing has been a priority from the first minute. In one year we have done more, we have approved more housing measures than in the last 8 years of the previous government. They were only able to build 14 homes in 8 years, and in one year we acquired 139 social homes in Safranar and La Torre,” explained the mayor.

With the constitution of surface rights, the allocation procedure for which begins tomorrow, the City Hall conditions and imposes as a necessary condition for the constitution of said right that the entire surface area of ​​the plots be used for the construction of social housing.

In this way, the increase in the number of social housing units in the city is guaranteed, which, once completed, will become municipal property without the City Council having to pay for the work. In this way, the City Council increases its stock of social housing units at the end of the period of constitution of the surface right.
