The Civil Guard located a inflatable boat attached to a hang glider equipped with a motor, which flew over the coast of the southern zone of Gran Canaria. The aircraft was flying at an approximate height between 50 and 100 meters and at an estimated speed of around 30 knots, according to the patrol boat’s radar.
The agents saw how it flew along the coast towards Puerto de Mogán, returned again towards Arguineguín and returned to the mouth of Puerto Escala in Puerto Rico, where it landed 100 meters from that same mouth.
THE two people The aircraft’s crew members wore helmets, seat belts and life jackets and sat one behind the other in seats arranged longitudinally along the boat’s inflatable base. One of the occupants was a customer, while the other was providing the service, even though the documentation indicated they were a delta wing with engine for a rental without a driver, which is not the activity they practiced.
The tires used a take-off and landing surface as a possible flight field not authorized by those responsible for said surface.
The manager presented various documentation of a Powered Ultra Light in the aeronautical field, as well as of the ship in the maritime field, not being valid on their own since the approval together (boat and plane) and the certificate of the device to be able to carry out the activity.
All irregularities detected have been brought to the attention of the National Aviation Safety Agency (AESA), the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas and the Government of the Canary Islands, so that these bodies and taking into account the data provided, proceed to carrying out the relevant procedures and actions to clarify administrative responsibilities, adopting the sealing of the device as a precautionary measure by the Maritime Captaincy of Las Palmas.
