Civil Guard seizes largest quantity of this drug in history

The routes of entry of synthetic drugs into Spain remain more active than ever. Proof of this is that one of them, the one that crosses the land border between Spain and France, was the scene of the largest seizure of MDMA pills in history, culminating in an operation by the Civil Guard.

It is within the framework of the Operation Adriatic. In this they have achieved 9 people arrested in Ibiza and Malagabelonging to one of the main criminal organizations of introduction of synthetic drugs in Spain, operating in different parts of Europe.

During the operation, they intervened more than a million pills ecstasy. Specifically 1,071,327 MDMA tablets, for a total weight of 357 kilograms. In addition, 212 kilos of ketamine, 73 of MDMA, 20 kilos of cocaine, 21 of pink cocaine (called tusi), 10 of hashish and 6 of marijuana, in addition to 3 kilos of sugara substance used to make pink cocaine.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed 25 million euros. As for the aforementioned synthetic drug, this is the largest seizure to date. The previous significant number of seizures occurred in 2021, when the UDYCO Central of the National Police seized 827,000 tablets.

The operation

The investigation began when the agents discovered, following the latest operations carried out against drug trafficking, the existence of an organisation that was introducing drugs into Ibiza, using mules that drove double-bottomed vehicles.

With this information, the Civil Guard was able to verify how the criminal organization tried to introduce one of these vehicles from the Netherlands. For this reason, in the Spanish-French border via Irun The vehicle was stopped, revealing inside a false bottom where 25 kilograms of various synthetic drugs (MDMA, ketamine and ecstasy) were hidden.

This is a common route of introduction of these substances, which come largely from organisations in the Netherlands, a country whose criminal groups dominate the trafficking of this drug at European level.

Continuing their investigations, the agents were able to verify that part of the organization had moved to the province of Malaga with the intention of settling in this area and expanding its illicit activity throughout this province.

Once the main members of the network were identified, 9 people were arrested, whose leaders were Italian citizens living in Ibiza, assisted by other Spaniards and Dutch. The operation was carried out by the Organized Crime Anti-Drugs Team of the Balearic Civil Guard.
