Clavijo begins an international tour in Morocco to address the “migratory drama”

The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced a diplomatic agenda to the countries issuing boats and cayucos, which will begin in Rabat for a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the neighboring country and with the President of the Moroccan Parliament.

Clavijo will hold a meeting at 11:00 a.m. with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and will continue his agenda and meet at 4:00 p.m. the President of the House of Representatives of Morocco, Rachid Talbi Alami.

As pointed out by the spokesperson for the Canary Islands Executive, Alfonso Cabello, the tour will begin this Monday in Morocco, country of origin of the 28% of boats who arrived in the islands this year. As you pointed out, the Spanish Government has already been informed of this trip, as well as the full agenda of the planned meetings.

“28% of the boats arriving this year come from Morocco, hence the importance of revise and continue working not only at the state level but also at the international level to continue focusing on the migratory drama that the Canary Islands are experiencing,” said the spokesperson.

On the other hand, Cabello placed particular emphasis on the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to continue moving forward in a a lot at the national level which allows the modification of the law on immigration to be able to take care of migrant minors.

“We continue to work so that the two main political parties in the Congress of Deputies meet again and continue working over the coming days,” he concluded.
