The ultra pseudo-union Mains Propres has filed a complaint against the director of the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), María José Rallo del Olmo, and against the director of the Valencian Security and Emergency Response Agency, Javier Montero, for alleged crimes of reckless homicide, recklessness and damage due to the consequences of DANA which is currently affecting Spain and which has already caused more than two hundred deaths.
According to the complaint from Manos Públicas, the AEMET red alert was given on October 29 at 8:00 a.m. and the Valencian Security and Emergency Response Agency sent a first notification at 8:10 p.m. through the ES-MEDIO system ALERTS, sending messages to citizens. , which “only reached part of the population”. In this notice from 8:10 p.m., people were asked to avoid traveling and to stay at home.
In fact, the first notice from AEMET was broadcast on Tuesday around 7:30 a.m., while it was the alerts sent to cell phones by the Generalitat Valenciana that arrived after 8 p.m., when hundreds of people were already trapped.
Clean Hands claims to have “prudently waited for the public prosecutor to open an information procedure”. “Given the time that has passed since their silence, countless affected people have responded to this popular accusation so that we can file the corresponding complaint,” they add.
AEMET “continued to issue warnings”
The Meteorological Agency has been questioned these days by the right for its work on this DANA. AEMET itself published a press release on Thursday in which it clarified that the entity is responsible for “making forecasts”, while it is up to the authorities “to adopt measures”. Scientists warn, for their part, that questioning AEMET puts us all in danger.
That same Friday, the spokesperson for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Clare Nullis, highlighted during a press conference the role that AEMET played in the case of Valencia, “which has not stopped to issue warnings throughout the week. The spokesperson also underlined during the same press conference from Geneva the importance of “reducing greenhouse gas emissions” to try to reverse climate change, and of “ensuring that warning systems early reaches everyone.
