Climate Action Week to be held in Baku

Baku Climate Action Week (BACW) will take place from 30 September to 4 October.

Trend reports that this event will form the basis of the climate agenda at a time when the international community is preparing for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) to be held in Baku in November.

It was noted that the Baku Climate Action Week will bring together key stakeholders from various fields such as politics, finance, trade, investment, science, art, culture, civil society and media.

It should be noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision on this was made at the plenary session of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku, which has become the centre of the world in two weeks, will host 70,000-80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the June 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of the Parties) stands for “Conference of the Parties”, the highest legislative body that oversees the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

198 countries participate in the convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin and its secretariat was located in Bonn.
