The dangers of cell phone use by minors are becoming more and more evident, and parents are trying to protect their children as much as possible. An increasingly recurring option, minors must not have a terminal that violates their privacy or gives access to harmful content. And according to data managed by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the percentage of children aged 10 to 15 who has a cell phone fell by almost 16 points percentages in just over a decade in the Community.
The INE confirms that this year the percentage of access of these minors to mobile phones is at 63.1 percentwhile in 2013 it was 79 percent. The data provided by the INE in its Survey on the equipment and use of information and communication technologies in homes dates back to 2006, when the lowest percentage of series, 50.8 percentwhile this year the second lowest is recorded, while the peak was reached in 2013, with 79 percent, reports Ical.
The percentage of children aged ten to 15 owning a cell phone in 2024 represents a drop of 3.8 points compared to 66.9 in 2023. The trend in Spain is also downwardwith 69.6 percent this year, compared to 70.6 in 2023.
Castile and León is the third autonomy with a lower percentage of children between 10 and 15 years old owning a cell phone, just ahead of Navarra, 62.6 percent; and Cantabria, 60.8 percent; and far from La Rioja, which tops the ranking with 79.9 percent.
The survey specifies, however, that despite this trend towards reduced access to mobile phones, the penetration of new technologies among minors is unstoppable, and children who have used a computer in the last three months are in the Community, in 97.3 percentor, while in 2023 it was 94 percent.
Furthermore, minors who accessed the Internet during the last quarter are in 97.3 percent, also above 95 percent of the 2023 survey.
