“COP29 has already been approved by the UN, which is very different from all COPs held so far in terms of feasibility.”
This Oku.Azin interview with the head of the management department of the HSEMM (Health, Safety and Environmental Protection) department of the operating company COP29, international management expert Kamal Mammadov saying.
He said that the COP29 venue is 100 percent accessible to people with all disability categories:
– This means that there are no barriers at the entrance to all conference rooms. An equal environment has been created for people in wheelchairs, with visual and hearing disabilities, or other categories, so that they can participate as equal guests in this event.
Color selection, coverolite density and others: important nuances that many people did not pay attention to at COP29
– What are the differences between COP29 and other COPs in this sense?
– At COP29, the translation into sign language was carried out, which was never used in other COPs. This pilot project was also very interesting for us. Thus, in one of the plenary rooms, during the first three days, translation was organized into an international translation language. Finger strips, finger maps and brochures written in Braille were printed for the visually impaired to make the location in the event space even more comfortable for use.
I am a wheelchair user myself and I can say that the entire area is designed to be 100 percent compliant with international standards. Ramps can be built to varying degrees, but in some cases, a poorly constructed ramp can turn a person’s comfort into a dangerous situation. So we control them. Because a lot of people walk around here, but they don’t pay attention to the surroundings.
A lot of work has been done behind the scenes. From the density of covrolite to the choice of colors, we have recommendations for color blind people to see those colors. We have also paid attention to the density of covrolites so that wheelchair users, elderly people and even those who walk in high heels can feel comfortable. Therefore, it is an exemplary measure.
All sectors of the COP29 Operating Company implement all the aforementioned recommendations. In fact, I can proudly say that COP29 is an exemplary event not only among COPs, but for all events.
In particular, I would like to mention that people with disabilities participate in the COP29 event in various fields, whether as volunteers, management or even as common contractors.
– You must have communicated with those people. How do they feel?
– You can go talk to them. From my observation, they are very satisfied and our team and volunteers give them maximum attention and care.
