For Daniel Jove Martínez, as he himself said, the Ferrol Public Prosecutor’s Office is his “second home”. He has been there for 15 years and for a few months he was already in charge. But this Friday, he officially assumed the position of Attorney General of the Ferrol area. And his main objective, now with this new responsibility, is to contribute to making Justice “a better quality public service”. Among other concrete actions that have been put on the table, “Redouble efforts in the fight against drug trafficking, particularly against organized groups.” It is about putting in the dock, he said, “those who cruelly profit at the expense of the health of others, destroying lives and ruining families.”
The event took place in the courtroom of the Instruction Court number 1 of Ferrol, which had become too small. The ceremony was presided over by the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, who, with his presence, wanted to highlight the work of the prosecutors of the region. And he was supported by the Attorney General of Galicia, Fernando Suanzes, who Jove Martínez was highlighted as “a prosecutor from Ferrol with an impeccable record.”

Under the watchful eye of the authorities, his friends and his family, Jove Martínez entered the room accompanied by his predecessor in office and patron of the event, Miguel Armenteros León, that before the summer he left the position of head of the Ferrol Public Prosecutor’s Office to take over the direction of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of A Coruña. And now officially at the head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Ferrol Region, Jove Martínez gave a speech in which he stated thatHe assumed his new functions “with humility” and “emotion”, but also “with firmness and responsibility”. “And with my strong commitment to the public interest, to ensure impartiality, legality and the defense of human rights,” he added.
But in addition to all these abstractions, Jove Martínez also brought his speech to the concrete. He made it clear that, for him, there are “two main lines of action” that constitute the “most immediate challenge.” for the parquet floor in the years to come: digitalization but also specialization. Regarding the first, he warned that “the effort” to be “at the forefront” of the technological changes to come cannot make us forget that Justice is administered for the people. Technology, yes, but “without giving in to futuristic whims” that lead to justice delivered by machines.
And as for specialization, the prosecutor opts mainly for subjects that are “as relevant” as violence against women, environmental protection, road safety or computer crime. But The new prosecutor of Ferrol wanted to make a “special mention” of sexist crimes, a “serious social problem” that once brought to court, the public prosecutor is “directly responsible” for it.
