Community Response to Peter Stano: “Expanding EUMA’s mandate is an unfriendly move”

“We strongly condemn the unconstructive statement of the official representative of the European Union (EU), Peter Stano, justifying the arming of Armenia and the activities of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA).”

Oku.Az informs that these opinions were included in the statement of the West Azerbaijan Community.

It was stated that the expansion and extension of the mandate of the EUMA, a mission that covers border issues, without coordination with another bordering country is a hostile step:

“In addition, the mission has demonstrated discrimination, prejudice and neglect towards ethnic Azerbaijanis. Thus, although the mission’s mandate mentions the issue of investigating the impact of the conflict on the situation of people living in the border regions, and despite the fact that we have repeatedly sent relevant appeals, the Azerbaijanis expelled from the border regions of Armenia, regularly patrolled by the EUMA, are indifferent to their fate.

Regarding the issue of militarization, we emphasize that both the EU and its Member States, first of all France, are arming Armenia on a large scale. EU military, financial, economic and development assistance through the European Peace Fund and other means should be seen as a reward for Armenia’s aggressive actions that have caused tens of billions of US dollars in destruction in Azerbaijan and have incited him to new attacks against Azerbaijan. The small amount of aid provided by the EU to Azerbaijan in relation to demining cannot be described as balancing the aid provided to the militarization of Armenia.

It was highlighted that Armenia resorts to military aggression as soon as it senses a small military advantage:

“From this point of view, the arming of Armenia, which has strong revanchist tendencies and an aggressive history, cannot be evaluated as a sovereign choice and cannot be compared with Azerbaijan’s legal defense measures. Therefore, we call on the EU not to carry out geopolitical conflicts. dividing lines in the region, stop strengthening Armenia’s militarism and replace Armenia’s aggression with We demand assistance from Azerbaijan to eliminate its destructive consequences.”
