Complaints in Arganda over use of female toilets in municipal facilities by men who change gender during registration

The mayor of Arganda del Rey, Alberto Escribano, sent a letter to the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, concerned about the “coexistence problems that his Trans law poses to us in Arganda”. Apparently, according to the councilor, users of municipal sports facilities are protesting against their use by men who have legally requested their sex change. Escribano demands from the minister “a solution to the problems generated in Arganda by his Trans law”.

The councilor of Arganda del Rey believes that Law 4/2023 of February 28, known as the Trans Law, generates problems of coexistence in the municipality. He explains in his letter to the minister that “given the events taking place in Arganda which directly attack the rights of the city’s women and municipal workers, we demand that the minister have the necessary tools to respond to all these coexistences. problems that his trans law is causing in the city.

Concretely, the complaint states that “in recent months we have observed in our city how different people, after having completed the necessary procedures to proceed with the “rectification of the registration of the gender designation” from man to woman , based on Law 4/2023, of February 28, approved by your Government, exercised the right, granted by their law, to enter the women’s locker room of municipal sports facilities instead of the men’s locker room, as they used to do it.

This fact, she insists, “leads many women to express, before this municipal council, their complaints and their concerns because they consider that their private life is violated”.

A situation that “also endangers municipal workers, who declare themselves defenseless given that there is no legal tool to act in such a circumstance,” the letter continues. As they point out, the law does not make this rectification of the register subject to the prior presentation of a medical or psychological report.

For these reasons and “with the aim of guaranteeing the rights of all residents of Arganda and municipal workers”, the mayor asks the Ministry of Equality “to indicate to us the procedure to follow to act in the aforementioned situation and the possible future occasions” that similar events occur as the one reported.
