Complutense breaks ties with Begoña Gómez and fights claiming it had 50 students, 12 according to the UCM

In less than a month, the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) ended the two masters co-directed by Begoña Gómez at the educational center.

Firstly, there is the Extraordinary Chair in Competitive Social Transformation, canceled last September and which covered the master’s degree of the same name. This Monday, Gómez herself, the wife of Pedro Sánchez, announced on her LinkedIn profile that her Master in Fundraising had suffered the same fate.

Far from concluding their relationship on good terms, Begoña Gómez criticized the cancellation of this second master’s degree, “20 days before the end of the registration date“, which he defined as a decision”completely abnormal» and contrary to the “fundamental interest of an educational establishment”.

“The reasons given to us by the University are linked to the low number of pre-registered. The reality is that we have more than 50 pre-registered in both modalities (in person and online) of the program until its cancellation”, lamented Gómez on his LinkedIn, before apologizing to the students concerned. “This does not respond to reasons of educational or economic viability”, he criticized.

However, the Complutense University was quick to deny the figures mentioned by Begoña Gómez. According to UCM data, There were only 12 pre-registered in the Master in Fundraising. And only four registered. “Two in the version online and two others in the face-to-face version,” Complutense sources told EL ESPAÑOL.

Court approval

But he Black Monday For the Sánchez-Gómez couple, it doesn’t stop there. In addition to the cancellation of the only academic project that still linked Begoña to the UCM, the Provincial Court of Madrid gave its approval to judge Juan Carlos Peinado, who is investigating the wife of the president of the government for the alleged crimes of commercial corruption and influence peddling.

The court authorized Peinado to continue his investigation into Begoña affaireven though it limited the subject of the investigation, excluding a single case, linked to Gómez’s links with Globalia, holding airline owner Air Europe.

In this legal case, he also appears to be under investigation Joaquin Goyachecurrent rector of the Complutense University. Peinado summoned him to testify and subsequently changed his procedural status to that of accused.

The third of those questioned in this case is the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabésin whose favor Begoña Gómez signed two letters of recommendation that he brought to two public award processes that he ultimately obtained. However, this branch of the investigation was left in the hands of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, as it concerned EU funds. But Peinado is investigating other awards received by Barrabés from different administrations.

He Black Monday ends with the announcement of Madrid Assemblywho will call Begoña Gómez to testify before his commission of inquiry into her relationship with the UCM. The deputies who will participate will examine whether there was preferential treatment or nepotism during the election of the wife of the President of the Government as co-director of the two masters who have now disappeared.

Master’s students

On the other hand, this is not the first time that the data on the number of students that one of the two academic projects promoted by Sánchez’s wife actually had does not agree.

As EL ESPAÑOL reports, Peinado detected contradictions on this point between two witnesses who testified during the hearing. Begoña affair.

It is for this reason that he demanded that Complutense inform him of the number of “registered students and participants of each edition” who held a master’s degree in competitive social transformation, one of two he co-directed Begoña Gómez and the first to be canceled.

On September 19, the magistrate also asked to know the amounts paid for each of the students and those collected by Sánchez’s wife and the rest of the teachers and those responsible for him.

As this newspaper reported, the judge had already ordered Marc-Simondeputy director of the La Caixa Foundation, one of the two sponsors of the master’s degree, to provide a report sent by Gómez to the entity. Nearly 250 students are included.

But a few hours before Simón testified as a witness, Luis CypressBarrabés’ partner and one of the master’s professors, only mentioned, during his interrogation, about 10 or 15 students.
