Gómez herself announced it through her social networks: “Today we received the news that the Complutense University canceled the new edition of the Master in Fundraising Management for ONL (Fundraising) (surprisingly and unilaterally) . Unfortunately, this will not allow us to continue carrying out a new edition of this program, which was to begin at the end of this month of October.
“Cancellation of a Master’s program, 20 days before the end of the registration date This is completely abnormal in the usual procedures and goes against the fundamental interest of an educational institution, which is to train students in different disciplines”, reproaches Gómez in his writing published on LinkedIn.
He specifies that “the reasons” put forward by Complutense for this cancellation “are linked to the low number of people pre-registered”. “The reality is that we had more than 50 pre-registered in both modalities (in person and online) of the program until its cancellation,” explains Gómez.
The reality, emphasizes Complutense, is that, despite what Gómez claims, only four students they had registered: two in online mode and two others in mixed mode.
It should be remembered that the Complutense has already decided to cancel the chair of competitive social transformation headed by Gómez and the associated master’s degree. Also in this case, the university alleged the failure of the students, in addition to the discredit suffered in recent months by the legal process surrounding the wife of the socialist president. According to Complutense, it is “notorious” that the public university center “has seen its image damaged and continues to suffer a significant devaluation of its reputation and prestige, following various legal proceedings.”
In his communication, Gómez apologizes “to the more than 50 students affected by this cancellation which does not respond to reasons of educational or economic viability”. Likewise, they announce that they will continue “to work to maintain this training vehicle in another educational space, convinced that this activity is very important for the sustainability of third sector organizations”.
Investigation
The decision is known on the same day that the Madrid court approved that judge Juan Carlos Peinado continues to investigate Begoña Gómez for the crimes of influence peddling and corruption in companies for the contracts of his partner, Juan Carlos Barrabés. Gómez also faces possible accusations of misappropriation of a business platform created and developed for Complutense.
In the order issued Monday, the judges specify that Peinado can continue to investigate the facts limited to the Complutense chair and the suspicious contracts. It should be remembered that Begoña Gómez signed two letters of recommendation so that his partner Barrabés could strengthen his options on two contracts from the public entity Red.es, which he ultimately won for more than 10 million. The businessman is also charged.
Magistrates give Peinado the green light to continue investigations related to Innova Next contracts which were not paid with European funds and are not the subject of an investigation by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
On this point, the Provincial Court indicates that it considers “striking” and “really significant” is the “quantitative and qualitative variation that the relationship between the companies of the Barrabés group and the public administration experiences in the temporal proximity of obtaining the professorship and obtaining the masters” directed by Gómez.
