Complutense does not renew the extraordinary chair co-directed by Begoña Gómez

The Complutense University of Madrid has decided not to renew the extraordinary chair of Competitive Social Transformation that was until now co-directed by Begoña Gómez, as confirmed to Europa Press by sources linked to this master’s degree.

This was communicated by the UCM this Wednesday to the two entities that sponsored the chair, Reale Seguros and Fundación La Caixa, without specifying the reasons. The truth is that the agreement by which it was created, signed on October 30, 2020, was valid for four years, so – unless it is renewed – it expired next month.

The UCM’s decision comes in the context of the investigation carried out by the president of the Court of Instruction number 41 of Madrid, Juan Carlos Peinado, against Begoña Gómez for alleged crimes of influence peddling and commercial corruption; the rector of the University of Madrid, Joaquín Goyache; and the businessman Juan Carlos Barrabés, among others.

Precisely, one of the facts under investigation is whether there was favorable treatment in the creation of the aforementioned chair and in the decision to place Gómez as co-director. The magistrate has already summoned as witnesses the CEO of Reale Seguros and the deputy director of the La Caixa Foundation.
