Congress approves the renewal of the RTVE Council by absolute majority in the second vote

This Thursday, the plenary session of the Congress elected the eleven candidates proposed by the PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Junts, PNV and Podemos to be part of the RTVE Board of Directors, after reaching the absolute majority (176 votes) required in one second and final secret vote. The new councilors received the support of 179 deputies, from PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Junts, Bildu, PNV, Podemos, CC and BNG, and former minister José Luis Ábalos.

The first attempt to elect the councilors corresponding to the Congress, which took place last Tuesday, required the support of two thirds of the Chamber, or 233 votes, which was impossible given the opposition of the PP and Vox. But the Government reform, approved by decree and validated by Congress the day after the DANA disaster, allowed this Thursday a second vote where the absolute majority (176 votes) was already sufficient.

This minimum bar was not reached last Tuesday, since the PSOE and its allies remained at 174 votes despite the addition of the BNG deputy, Néstor Rego, who admits to being against government reform because it means the same thing as Galician nationalists criticize the PP. on their regional television.

And there were two blank votes in the ranks of the Sumar Compromise deputies, also opposed to the reform and the timing, in the midst of the DANA tragedy. However, its spokesperson, Águeda Micó, promised that this Thursday they would vote to reach this minimum number of 176 votes and would not overturn the election of councilors.
