Around a hundred people participated in the demonstration this Saturday and called Santander by the Alfonso I Cultural Association under the motto “Let’s Reconquer Europe”, planned with the celebration of the second day of the “Galerna Fest” which began yesterday in the Séptimo Cielo hall of the Cantabrian capital and which sparked controversy after various groups and political parties deemed it “fascist” and called for its cancellation.
“Europe does not sell itself, Europe defends itself” or “Christian and non-Muslim Spain” are some of the songs spoken. A far-right association which claims to hold the voice of the real Europe.
“Among these peoples there is immortal France, eternal Italy, surviving Germany and, of course, Numantic Spain,” comments Sinforiano Bezanilla, president of the Alfonso I Cultural Association.
And the organizers of the Galerna Fest are not going to conclude the activity, as they indicated in a press release: “It will continue its path whatever the difficulties and that there is, on the contrary, much to reconquer”.
A festival that municipal groups like the PSOE demanded to be canceled because it included “openly Nazi” groups. For the City Council, nothing could be done while standing in a private space. And it is precisely the disco that decided to cancel the concerts that were going to take place TODAY. Afterwards, in recent hours, several groups have expressed their concern.
And in the streets, the response this afternoon was as follows: more than 500 people with the slogan “the streets against fascism”. “We don’t want the streets of a city as beautiful as Santander to be afraid of fascist groups,” says Arantxa Fernández, of the LGBTI Association of Cantabria.
Messages which today in Santander have succeeded in closing the door to hatred.
