Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz had a telephone conversation with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. This is the second conversation between them since Katz took office.

During the debate, Austin highlighted the importance of guaranteeing the security of the Lebanese army and the UN peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. He also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to the agreement aimed at maintaining order in the region and returning residents to their homes on both sides of the border.
At the same time, the United States expressed its disagreement with the initiative to create a “security zone” in southern Lebanon, which previously provoked opposition from local residents and doubts within the Israeli security forces.
In addition, the conversation addressed the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which remains one of the key issues on the international agenda.
Recall that the first conversation between Austin and Katz took place about two weeks ago, shortly after the latter’s appointment as Secretary of Defense.
