COP29 lane ban GOES INTO EFFECT

Starting at 00:00 tonight, the ban on access to the COP29 lanes organized on several streets and avenues in Baku comes into force.

Oku.Az reports that the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) reported this.

It was reported that road signs 5.9 were installed in each of these lanes, that is, “Lane for road vehicles.”

Those streets and avenues are:

Khojaly Avenue, Shah Ismayil Khatai Avenue, Bunyad Sardarov, Hasan Seyidbeyli, Sheikh Shamil, Mirzaaga Aliyev, Abdulla Shaig, Hasanoglu, Mikayil Useynov (in the direction of Bayrag Square), Zugulba Road and Zigh Highway.

Azadlig Avenue, Bulbul Avenue, Neftchilar Avenue, Heydar Aliyev Avenue, Parliament Avenue, Gulara Gadirbeyova, Niyazi, Istiglaliyet, Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Bakikhanov, Koroglu Rahimov, Mehdi Huseyn, Teymur Elchin, Nariman Narimanov, Mikayil Mushfig, Hasan Aliyev, Salyan Highway and Hava port road.

Will those lanes be canceled after COP29?

The Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency (AYNA) said that no buses, bicycles or other special lanes will be canceled after the COP29 event.

“The COP29 logos painted on the lanes will be removed after the event and the lanes will function as traffic lanes,” the statement said.

Will there be substantial bans on the city’s main streets and avenues during COP29?

According to official information from the COP29 Department of Transportation, no major prohibitions are planned on the main streets and avenues of the city during the event. Only during the Leaders’ Summit on November 11, 12 and 13 were alternatives determined for the roads along which the processions carrying the heads of State and Government will pass.

On those days, the planned directions of traffic regulation include Neftchilar Avenue, Yusif Safarov Avenue, Heydar Aliyev Avenue, Zarifa Aliyeva Street and other roads.

It should be noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Baku from November 11 to 22.
